Presentation #7: Inside My Backpack
What’s Inside and How Do I Fit Everything For Multiple Months Away?
We will bring in our backpacks and have a show and tell. We’ll answer the questions: How do we prepare for multiple climates? How do we stay connected with family and friends back home? Whether scrubbing laundry by hand in the shower or preventing bed bug attacks, find out which items are most essential to our travels. We will go through each item on our lengthy packing list!
Presentation #8: Myanmar (Burma)
Yangon, Inle Lake and Bagan
Share in our appreciation for a culture still relying on primitive methods of survival. The floating gardens and local life of Inle Lake left us in awe while the beauty of Bagan captured our hearts as we explored over 2000 ancient pagodas and monasteries. Not to be outdone, the most famous pagoda in Myanmar, the Schwedagon Pagoda, took our breath away in Yangon.
Presentation #9: Colombia
Medellin, Salento and Cartegena
In a country deemed unsafe for travel by our government, rarely had we experienced a more heart-warming welcome. The impressive city of Medellin draws travelers from around the world as Cartegena proudly displays Columbia’s colorful heritage. The coffee plantations and lush natural beauty of Salento proved to be one of our favorite destinations in all our travels.
Presentation # 10: Guatemala
Tikal, Antigua and Lake Atitlan
Explore the anceint ruins of Tikal with us and discover the inspiration for building some of the world’s most impressive monuments. Then laugh with us as we do our best to learn Spanish, often leading to entertaining interactions with locals attempting to correct our sentences before venturing to Pacaya, the famous volcano neighboring Antigua where we will roast marshmallows from the volcanic heat.
Presentation # 11: Nepal
The Kathmandu Valley and Pokhara
Nepal offers so much more than just the magnificent snow capped peaks of the famous mountain ranges, including Mt. Everest. Ritual is deeply ingrained in the daily life of the Nepali people. It is seen everywhere from the colorful flowers offered, bells rang to send prayers soaring, mantras chanted and tikkas worn to show devotion. The smell of incense saturates the streets from local shops and homes.
Presentation #12: New Zealand
Rotorua, Queenstown and Parks Along the Way
The adventure capital of the world easily lived up to its name. Neon colored sulfuric hot springs and camping on beaches home to sea lions kept us smiling throughout the country. Our brief stay in Queenstown will never be forgotten, giving us the opportunity to jump from a plane at 15,000 feet!
